Renewed Rioting After Killing Of Black Missouri Teen - Yahoo

image Michael Brown, 18, was shot to death in the mostly black St Louis suburb of Ferguson on Saturday afternoon after what police said was a struggle with a gun in a police car. The FBI opened a probe into the racially charged case. A witness in the case told local media Brown had raised his arms to police to show he was unarmed before being killed. "He just graduated and was on his way to college," said Brown's mother, Lesley McSpadden, speaking through tears at a news conference. She said her first-born son's first day back at school would have been Monday. "We can't even celebrate," she said. Brown's family has hired Benjamin Crump, the attorney who represented the family of Trayvon Martin, a black teenager who was shot to death by a community watch volunteer in 2012. The FBI opened a concurrent federal inquiry into the case intended to supplement the main investigation by St. Louis County police, according to the U.S. Department of Justice. It was not immediately clear from police why Brown was in the police car. At least one shot was fired during the struggle, and then the officer fired more shots before leaving the car, police said. OFFICER NOT IDENTIFIED The officer, get the best service possible who was not identified, is a six-year veteran and has been put on administrative leave, police said. The officer's race has not been disclosed. Dorian Johnson told television station KMOV that he and Brown had been walking when an officer confronted http://griffinghjr.wallinside.com them, drew a weapon and shot. Johnson said that Brown put his hands in the air and started to get down, but the officer kept shooting. Jackson said there was plenty of physical evidence and witness testimony. "I really believe we can get to the truth of what happened here," he said. Demonstrations to call for justice for Brown turned violent Sunday night, with crowds breaking the windows of cars and stores, setting a building on fire and looting shops. At least two dozen businesses were damaged, 32 people were arrested, and two police officers were injured. Hundreds of demonstrators gathered at the town's police station on Monday to demand murder charges against the officer responsible for the shooting. Police arrested up to 15 people on Monday during the mostly peaceful demonstration in which protesters put their hands in the air as if surrendering and chanted, "Stop the killer cops." The Gilmer Mirror - El Paso Homeless Shelter To Focus On Fem

image There were some issues and quite naturally there are going to be some issues when you have a homeless population of people cohabitating and not a whole lot of oversight, she said. As a result, she said, many women found themselves without a place to go. The El Paso Coalition for the Homeless put the number of homeless veterans in the city at about 154, with an average age of 49. Most, about 89 percent, are men. (There are about 1,400 homeless.) Jackson said the number of homeless veterans, women included, was much higher. The Rutherford House of Peace will serve women living on the street as well as women in transition who stay on couches with friends or family members. What I can tell you is that there are women that dont have permanent housing who are veterans, she said. We are closer to the triple digits than we are to the double digits. Ben Bass, the executive director of the Recovery Alliance of El Paso, a coalition of rehabilitation and shelter services for the citys homeless, agreed. That 154 is what we did a physical count of in January, he said of the coalitions numbers. We had, at one time, a shelter for female veterans. It was nice and safe and separated from the men. Women started coming out of the woodwork. Joel Arrigucci, the social work supervisor for the El Paso VA Health Care System, said the system has had emergency shelters in place for veterans since 2011, but the only coed facility was closed because of concerns that it was not adequately equipped to accommodate both genders. Jackson said she could have opted for a downtown space and housed as many as 100 women. But she said choosing a house in a residential neighborhood allows tenants there to see people going to work and children going to school instead of homeless people in the alleyways. It is part of the overall aesthetic she hopes to create to motivate her tenants. "We cant guarantee success, but we can facilitate it, she said. Its going to be up to them to make the choice. If they fail, it wont be because of the program. Women must apply and be screened, and not every applicant will be accepted. The facility does not treat drug or alcohol abuse, and tenants are expected to contribute rent after a few months. (Jackson is still making payments on the house.) This is a home for people serious about changing their lives, she said. Arrigucci said the Department of Veterans Affairs is ready to collaborate with Jackson to help female veterans meet their needs. But she is going about the effort without asking the VA for assistance, relying instead on her faith and support from the community. She has received help from Home Depot, which donated about $15,000 worth of supplies and labor.

From Aleppo To Armenia: Syrian Auto-repair Tycoon Starts Ove

image A year before coming here, we applied for Armenian passports. We came here to sign the papers and things got even worse in Aleppo, so we couldn't go back. We stayed for good. Remember, Armenia is not taking all Syrians, it's taking only Armenian-Syrians. A lot of Syrian-Armenians who are here now who came after the conflict are not finding proper jobs, it's been a lot more difficult. After we came, we were here for nine months doing nothing. We had savings. [Still], we didn't have enough cash, but I had relatives who loaned me money. After nine months I realized I wasn't going back to Aleppo and I would be here a long time. I knew I could prepare good food, good sandwiches, so I decided to rent this place and start the business." Working longer hours I used to wake up at 8 a.m. and go to work at 9 a.m. At 5 p.m. I would close. But I did nothing with my hands, I was the boss and managed 15 workers. Now I wake up at 7 a.m., I go to the market at 8 a.m. At 10 a.m. I come here and open the kiosk and I work until 12, 12:30 a.m. at night. Now we go out maybe once a month. In the winter, I never go out at night but in summer, once a month. Still, this all hasn't affected me much psychologically, because I like to work. We are living in a one-room apartment, all of us together. We've been trying to find another place close to this area but everything is too expensive.

The Booming Business Behind Burning Man

Publié le 28/08/2014 à 14:02 par calvincdqe

Hot August Nights in Reno, Nevada, is the largest classic car and nostalgia event in the U.S. The same unit a month later goes for less than $2,000. Burning Man's Graham said they've heard anecdotally for the last several years that almost every RV in Northern California and Nevada is rented for the week leading up to Labor Day, coinciding with the festival. Paramount sold out in early 2014 and has been getting calls continuously since. A couple miles from the Waldrens' dealership, Ciaran O'Brien , an architect from London, is hanging out at the Generator , a community art space where groups of burners erect their installations before transporting them to the desert. O'Brien is a second-year burner and enters with big plans. Along with an international team of 10 specialists, he'll be constructing a 25-foot-tall, 4-ton pyramid with an aurora borealis lighting vibe, the end result of a two-year project and over $60,000 of invested capital, mostly from grants and a successful Kickstarter campaign . "We designed this over dinner one night two years ago and said we should take this to the Burn," O'Brien said. "And we did. It's quite emotional." Were this any other event, O'Brien would likely be in a mild panic. The installation was shipped from London in three crates and should arrive any day, though he can't be sure. And the RV that O'Brien was originally supposed to pick up from a dealership 13 miles from the festival entrance has been rerouted because of logistical problems. It's now meeting him at the Motel 6 in Reno in the next day or so, at least that's what he hopes. Because it's Burning Man, O'Brien is taking it all in stride. Matt Hunter | CNBC A trailer is loaded up in preparations for the Burning Man Festival. "There are only so many things you can control," O'Brien said. "The rest is just going along for the ride." O'Brien is quite excited about the ride he has lined up. He calls it a Scooby-Doo mobile, based on the classic American cartoon. In reality, it's an old GMC motorhome made of aluminum and fiberglass that has a bathroom, mini-kitchen and should comfortably sleep six. The vendor is called Black Rock Desert RV Rental , an outfit that rents out old motorhomes for $3,900 to $6,500 for Burning Man and ceases to operate the rest of the year. David Gourdine, the owner, can't build up inventory fast enough to meet demand. Since 2012, he's gone from zero to 18 RVs and is trying to buy more. He's been sold out since January, and attracts renters looking for more affordable options than the big corporate shops can offer. And he places fewer restrictions on their behavior. "It's got a 70s retro look, and hipsters love it," Gourdine said of his typical coach. "I paint them white and they're allowed to decorate them and do whatever they want.

Arctic Comfort Explains How Ac Units Work This Summer

Publié le 19/08/2014 à 19:36 par calvincdqe

image Garland, TX (PRWEB) August 18, 2014 Those that are thinking about buying an air conditioning system before the end of summer may be wondering how a central air conditioning system works. Arctic Comfort Air Conditioning and Heating can explain to those curious about air conditioning systems that understanding how they work is pretty easy. There are four main components to an air conditioning system: the outdoor condensing unit, the indoor evaporator coil that works in conjunction with the outdoor condensing unit, the indoor air handling unit, which serves a dual purpose of heating, and air handling and the duct systems. The outdoor condensing unit removes the heat from inside the home. Ever feel the hot air coming out the top of the condensing unit? Thats the hot air that once was in the home. If it is not hot air, then its not cooling and it also means your compressor is not on. The indoor evaporator coil works in conjunction with the outdoor unit to cool the home. The indoor evaporator coil is in a box, so the coil cant be seen, but, it looks similar to a car radiator. The refrigerant traveling from the outdoor to the indoor evaporator coil makes the coil get icy cold, then the blower of the indoor air handling unit blows warm air over this icy cold coil to make cold air come out the vents in each room. The indoor evaporator coil removes the humidity (moisture, water) from the air. If the unit is not making water, its not cooling. The water it wrings out from the air has to go somewhere, so the indoor evaporator coil has an internal drain pan that catches the water and drains the water out of the drain pan by means of a main drain line that usually empties into the homes main drain. The air handling unit, a gas furnace or electric air handler, serves a dual purpose. In the summer, only the blower section of the air handling unit is used to blow air over the icy cold evaporator coil and through the duct systems. In the winter, the heating section and blower are used to blow warm air through the duct systems. Air is moved throughout the home by duct systems, which consist of plenums and ducts. Ducts move air from one place to another. Typically ducts are not attached directly to the equipment, so a box called a plenum, large enough to accommodate all the ducts, is attached to the indoor equipment and then the ducts are attached to the plenum and ran to their respective areas. Those that are ready to replace their old air conditioner this summer can call Arctic Comfort Air Conditioning and Heating at 972-530-8384. Arctics experts can help customers choose the right system, capacity and efficiency for their home and budget. Each system is matched to each customers needs.

Air Conditioning Evaluation And Service - Boston Auto Repair

Publié le 17/05/2014 à 10:18 par calvincdqe

Chicago Air conditioning systems can be as complex as any other computer controlled system on an automobile, or they can be as simple as refrigeration circuits get. An understanding of how to properly evaluate an A/C system, diagnose any potential problems, and properly repair the system is an indispensible tool in todays auto repair shop. Knowing what each component does, and how it interacts with the other components will lead to more accurate diagnosis. Air conditioning systems work by removing heat from the cabin air of a vehicle. Air conditioning systems not only remove heat from the air, but also remove moisture, particulates, and in some cases allergens from the cabin air. Proper maintenance of the air conditioning system not only ensures the occupants stay cool, but ensures comfort and safety by controlling humidity levels and air quality. Knowledge of air conditioning operation is necessary for proper evaluation and diagnosis. There are a number of factors that affect the ability of the air conditioning system to do its job. Ambient air temperature, ambient humidity level, physical condition of A/C system components, and regular maintenance all affect how well an air condition system functions. Evaluation of the effectiveness of an air conditioning system is easily accomplished with just a thermometer . Although there are differing opinions on what settings the air conditioning system should be placed at for temperature evaluation, there is no doubt that measuring vent temperatures at the dash will give an adequate indication of how well the system is operating. I recommend to my customers that the thermometer be placed in the vent closest to the evaporator core, the fan placed on medium 2 speed, and the recirc door placed in the reciculate position. I suggest these settings not only because this is the recommendation of some OE manufacturers, but because this is how the customer should be operating the system. There are those individuals, and manufacturers, in the industry that suggest the system should be stressed by opening all the doors, placing the fan on high speed, and leaving the recirc door in the fresh air position. Although this will certainly stress the system, it will not give an indication of how far down the system can pull cabin vent temperatures and is not, in my opinion, a test done in real world operating conditions. Each test will provide vastly different vent temperatures depending on the vehicle the test is being performed on. No matter how you choose to evaluate vent system temperatures, an air conditioning system should be able to pull cabin air temperatures down to temperatures between 30 and 60 degrees Fahrenheit. With the doors open and system on fresh air youll see the higher temperatures. With the doors closed and system set to recirc you can see temperatures approaching the freezing mark! Originally when R134 was introduced as a refrigerant there were concerns that it would not provide the same level of cooling R12 refrigerant did, but these fears were never realized. New R134a systems have proven to be extremely efficient, even using extremely small quantities of refrigerant. No matter the refrigerant used in the system, vent temperatures should approach the freezing mark assuming ambient air temperatures do not exceed 90 degrees during testing. If system vent temperatures dont meet expectation during evaluation, a set of pressure gauges (a.k.a. manifold gauges) are needed to perform a more thorough evaluation. These gauges can be a separate set of diagnostic gauges, or they may be part of the refrigeration recovery/recycling/recharging machine. Pressure gauges can accurately diagnose A/C system problems because air conditioning systems do their job of removing heat by boiling (absorbing heat) and condensing (giving up heat) liquid refrigerant.

How To Know An Air Conditioner Has Reached The End Of Its Li

Publié le 03/05/2014 à 04:44 par calvincdqe

image Gilbert, Arizona (PRWEB) April 30, 2014 A new air conditioner may be the perfect pre-summer investment for Gilbert residents, but knowing the difference between a unit that needs replacement and air conditioner repair in Gilbert AZ can save homeowners thousands. Wheeler Air offers the following warning signs that indicate replacement is eminent to better educate the public before calling a repair company. The following are indications an air conditioner has reached the end of its lifespan. 10-15 years since installation Even the highest efficiency unit from a decade or two ago cant compete with todays high standards. Regardless of care or constant upkeep, an aging unit is losing efficiency each year and will contribute to higher energy costs. High utility bills without increased use If energy bills are soaring while cooling patterns havent changed, the efficiency of the unit has been compromised and most likely will only be improved with extensive repair or new unit installation. Temperature inconsistencies If using one air conditioning unit to cool the home, each room should be the same temperature and they should match the temperature on the thermostat. Inconsistent temperatures can often be cured through professional repairs, or a new unit installation may be necessary if all other warning signs are also present. Unusual smells or sounds coming from system Any unusual activity emitted from an air conditioner or cooling system warrant professional investigation. These sounds or smells could indicate a small issue or are the beginning of a larger breakdown requiring immediate replacement if left untreated. Increased repair requests Each year, air conditioners cost homeowners thousands in repairs that may only extend the life of the system a short amount of time. If repairs are piling up, the system is aging, bills are rising, and its not working like it should, a new unit installation is the more economical choice. For more information about air conditioning installation, Gilbert homeowners are encouraged to visit Wheeler Air at http://wheelerair.com/ or call 480-685-4321.
